Thanks for joining me in my Follow Dave Journey, we are in week 23. This journey chronicles my attempt to be one of the Top 200 Fittest 50 – 54 year old males as measured by the CrossFit Open, which begins the end of February 2018. You can read more about the CrossFit Open here and here.
Six week’s to go. I continue to be very excited about the CrossFit Open. This year to participate in the Open will cost $20 per person. If you are interested in signing up or reading more about it go here. I’ve signed up and I’m ready to go.
This past week I was in Wickenburg Arizona. It’s a long story on how I ended up there so let’s just say it was an effort to find someplace that is warm and dry. I’ll also just say that there are a lot of horses in Wickenburg…….Smile.
Wickenburg is not a big town, and it doesn’t have a CrossFit affiliate. But as luck would have it a new Globo gym (that’s what A CrossFit snob calls a non-crossfit gym) called Snap Fitness opened the morning after we arrived.
Knowing that my CrossFit snob membership could be at stake I have to say that Snap Fitness of Wickenburg is a really nice place. I worked out at their facility twice and was able to do pretty much any movement that I would have done at Veneta CrossFit.
What I really did miss was the camaraderie and excitement that occurs during a CrossFit workout. The energy created by group workouts allows you to lift more weight and to move faster than when exercising by yourself. I’ve mentioned it before but there is a real bonding that occurs after going through a tough workout with someone.
It has been almost seven years since my first CrossFit workout at Eugene CrossFit. I fondly remember working out three days a week at 6:30 am. At these workouts I was usually joined by Mark, Chantelle, Cory, Emily, Mark and Bethany. I don’t see these people very often anymore but when I do there is a family type connection that was built by working out together.
Don’t get me wrong, if you are going to a Globo gym and have found a way that works for you I think that is awesome. But, if you are struggling to get motivated to workout I would encourage you to give CrossFit a try.
Because I was in warmer weather I also did a couple of running workouts. You know, it is much easier to run after losing weight, who knew.
I don’t think I will ever like running but I know I need to do it. It is good to know that I can at least tolerate it for now.
Thanks for following me on my Journey.
